1. How long does it take to record a song?
The amount of time depends on the complexity of the recording. For example: how many instruments, how much overdubbing, etc? But even more important is the level of preparation of the project. Is the song properly structured? Are the melody and chord structures complete & solid? Are the solos and back vocals ready and rehearsed? All these factors and many others have an impact on the amount of time required in the studio. The better prepared the musicians are, the shorter the time spent in studio.
2. How much does it cost to record a song?
The studio charges by the hour. The more complex the recording, the higher the cost. We can record a song within just about any budget, from large - complex arrangement work for a full band plus overdubs, to very small budgets - one mic, one line input.
3. What should we do to prepare our music for recording?
Revue the song structure and make sure the instrumentation is working together at all times. Prepare the instruments for recording:
* New guitar/bass strings (bring spares!) one day prior to recording.
* Check intonation of stringed instruments
* Shield electric guitars from electronic buzz
* Ensure drum skins are in good shape (replace if necessary) & tuned.
* Verify that guitar/bass amps have good tubes.
* Create lyric sheets and/or chord charts for each musician that clearly show the arrangement and structure of the song(s).
* Arrive at the studio rested and fed!
4. Can we record everything live?
It is possible to record everything live, but it can be difficult to get all the performers to achieve a good take simultaneously. Also, mic leakage is often too noticeable to make a high quality recording. Most bands that record here prefer to lay down bed tracks first. These tracks are usually drums, bass and perhaps a guitar or keyboard.
